Dental Scaling (Removal of Dental Calculus)
Dental scaling is the procedure of removing dental calculus (tartar), which accumulates on the teeth over time, using ultrasonic instruments that break down the deposits through micro-vibrations.
Approximately 12 hours after brushing, a film-like layer of plaque begins to form on the tooth surfaces. If the teeth are not brushed regularly, minerals in saliva accumulate on this plaque, while bacteria adhere to the surface, eventually resulting in the formation of dental calculus. To prevent this, teeth should be brushed at least twice a day.
The accumulation of dental calculus can cause gum infections and, over time, may lead to the loss of the alveolar bone surrounding the teeth. Therefore, regular dental check-ups should be scheduled every six months.
Dental scaling should be performed when deemed necessary by the dentist.
