General Introduction
The Department of Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Diseases is a specialty that deals with all kinds of mental, cognitive, academic and social difficulties of infants, children and adolescents between the ages of 0-18. In addition to the biological and psychological aspects of diseases, it also examines behavioral and social aspects and in this context, it also operates in the fields of education and preventive health.
Mental disorders commonly observed in children and adolescents include; attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder, anxiety disorders, major depressive disorder, conduct disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), stuttering, childhood schizophrenia, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of mental disorders such as sleep and wakefulness disorders, feeding and eating disorders, enuresis, encopresis, adjustment disorders, dissociation, psychotic disorders and mood disorders.
At the same time, within the scope of preventive mental health, counseling is provided to parents and guidance is provided on child rearing attitudes. Parents are informed about the normal stages of infant/child development and are informed about the problems that can be experienced specific to each developmental period.
About the Clinic
Since 2015, our clinic has been providing specialty training by recruiting research assistants through the Medical Specialty Examination (TUS). So far, 8 research assistants have successfully completed their specialty training in our Department.
In our clinic; education, research and treatment services are carried out with academic staff consisting of faculty members Mehmet Fatih Ceylan, Selma Tural Hesapçıoğlu and 14 research assistants, and two specialist physicians (Nuran Demir Doğan and Cafer Doğan Hacıosmanoğlu) are also involved in treatment services.
Prof. Dr. Mehmet Fatih Ceylan is the administrative head of the clinic and the head of the department. He is also the chairman of the ÇÖZGER Health Board. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Selma Tural Hesapçıoğlu is the education officer of the clinic and the physician in charge of the Child Monitoring Center (ÇİM). He also serves on the Education Planning Board, Clinical Research Ethics Committee, Scientific Study Support Score Commission, Medical Specialty Board Curriculum Creation and Standards Determination System (TUKMOS) Commission, Higher Education Council Disabled Student Working Group, Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University Faculty of Medicine Board of Directors, Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University Faculty of Medicine Program Creation and Curriculum Commission.
Education Programs
In our department, pre- and post-graduate education is prioritized, scientific developments are closely followed and it is important to provide an education that is open to change. Case meetings, seminars, article and literature hours are organized in our clinic. The postgraduate education program of our clinic for the summer and fall semesters of 2023-2024 is attached. Scientific research is also conducted in our clinic and published in national/international journals.
General Polyclinic and Service Services
Yıldırım Beyazıt University Yenimahalle Education and Research Hospital Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Diseases Clinic receives applications from many cities of our country with its wide patient profile. Our clinic, which offers the first Pediatric and Adolescent Mental Health and Diseases inpatient service in Ankara, has a total capacity of 10 beds with individual patient rooms where each patient stays with a companion.
Outpatient and inpatient services provided in our clinic include developmental evaluation of children and adolescents, evaluation of mental complaints, diagnosis and treatment, psychometric evaluations and follow-up. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), family treatment, pharmacological treatment, consultation-liaison, forensic psychiatry, social service practices and preventive mental health services for the community are provided.
